Day 1: Arrival in Paro
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Wild Nature Quest, who will assist you with your transfer to your hotel. After a short rest and refreshment, your cultural adventure begins with a series of captivating visits in the afternoon.our first stop is the National Museum, housed in the historic Ta Dzong, a former watchtower transformed into a museum. This visit offers an immersive introduction to Bhutan’s way of life, as well as a deep dive into the country’s natural and cultural history.
Next, explore the stunning Paro Rinpung Dzong, an iconic fortress and monastery that boasts breathtaking views of the Paro Valley. Take a gentle hike from the dzong to the Wooden Cantilever Bridge, a historic structure that holds significant cultural value.

Day 2: Paro – Excursion to Takshang/Tiger’s Nest
Board on a memorable full-day hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest. Perched dramatically on a steep cliff, 900 meters above the Paro Valley, this sacred site is one of Bhutan’s most revered landmarks. Day 3: Paro – Thimphu
After a leisurely breakfast, board on a drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. En route, stop at the Ta-Chhogagang Temple. Take a short hike down to the 14th-century iron chain suspension bridge,Upon arrival in Thimphu, immerse yourself in the city’s rich culture and traditions with visits to the following landmarks: Painting School (Zorig Chusum): Discover the hub of Bhutanese artistry at this institute dedicated to preserving traditional arts and crafts. Day 4: Thimphu Sightseeing

The one-hour hike offers a refreshing experience and an opportunity to learn about Bhutan’s rich Buddhist traditions.Return to town for a delightful lunch before continuing your exploration with visits to these key landmarks:Buddha Point: Visit the majestic site of the world’s largest sitting Buddha, peacefully overlooking the valley.
Textile Museum: Dive into Bhutan’s vibrant textile traditions with a visit to the Textile Museum. Learn about the intricate artistry behind Bhutanese national attire and the skilled craftsmanship that transforms fabric into items of beauty and utility.
Archery Ground: Witness Bhutan’s national sport, archery, in action. Modern competitions now feature advanced American compound bows, adding a contemporary touch to this traditional game.

Day 5: Thimphu – Dochula – Punakha – Wangdue
Morning: Drive to Punakha, with a refreshing stop at the breathtaking Dochula Pass (3,150m). Enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Bhutan Himalayas, and spend some time exploring and capturing photographs of the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, a site steeped in spiritual and historical significance.Continue to Punakha and visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 at the confluence of the Po Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River). This architectural masterpiece served as Bhutan’s ancient capital and remains a symbol of the country’s cultural and religious heritage.
Take a short, scenic hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of the Divine Madman). Nestled in a picturesque valley, this temple is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, Bhutan’s revered saint, known for his unconventional teachings.

Day 6: Punakha – Wangdue – Phobjikha – Pelela- Trongsa
Begin your drive through the lush Sha Valley, surrounded by Bhutan’s rich vegetation and landscapes. The journey takes you across the iconic Black Mountain Range, the country’s longest mountain range, offering stunning views and natural beauty.Visit the charming Gangtey Gompa, a revered Nyimapa monastery nestled in the peaceful village of Gangtey. If time allows, enjoy a delightful hike down to the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley renowned for its beauty and the winter home of the endangered black-necked cranes.
Continue your drive to Trongsa, crossing the scenic Pelela Pass. Along the way, pass through quaint villages such as Rukupji, Chendebji, and Tangsuji, each offering glimpses of Bhutan’s rural life and culture.
As you approach Trongsa, be charmed by the breathtaking sight of Trongsa Dzong, majestically perched against the backdrop of the valley.

Day 7: Trongsa – Yotongla – Bumthang
On your way to Bumthang, make a stop at the Trongsa Dzong, a historic fortress that once served as the summer residence of Bhutan’s royal family. Strategically located, this dzong holds great significance in the country’s history. Next, visit the Ta Dzong, the watchtower of Trongsa, which was converted into a museum in 2008. This museum showcases approximately 244 artifacts used by the royal Wangchuck dynasty.After a delightful lunch, continue your journey towards Jakar, the heart of the Bumthang region.

Day 8: Bumthang Sightseeing
Explore the Heart of Bumthang: A Day of Spiritual and Cultural engagement Start your day with a walking tour around Jakar, After breakfast, visit the historic Jakar Dzong, also known as the “Castle of the White Bird.” Continue to Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest monasteries, steeped in legend and spiritual significance. Next, Wonder at Kurjey Lhakhang, built over a sacred rock bearing the body imprint of Guru Rinpoche, one of Bhutan’s most revered spiritual figures.Lunch: Taste an authentic Bhutanese meal at a local farmhouse, offering a unique cultural experience.
Afternoon: Discover the peaceful Tamshing Monastery, a cornerstone of the Nyingma tradition in Bhutan. Admire the ancient, unrestored murals on its inner walls.

Day 9: Bumthang – Ura – Phrumshengla Pass – Mongar
This route is often regarded as the most stunning drive in the country. Along the way, you’ll visit the charming village of Ura, where you can take some time to explore and engage yourself in its unique character.From there, the journey continues towards the Phrumshengla Pass, a spectacular drive offering breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains and untouched landscapes. This section of the National Highway, carved into sheer cliffs, features a guard-railed edge with dramatic drop-offs. The road meanders through a picturesque setting of cascading waterfalls and remote villages.
After crossing the Kuri Chu River via a scenic bridge, a final hour of winding roads will bring us to Mongar, one of the largest towns in eastern Bhutan.

Day 10: Mongar – Lhuentse – Mongar (Drive 5 hrs)
Lhuentse, a region steeped in history, is renowned as the ancestral home of the father of Bhutan’s first king. It is also celebrated for its exquisite Kushuthara textiles, considered the most famous and valuable in the country.Your journey to Lhuentse follows the scenic left bank of the Kuri Chu River, passing through the charming villages of Menji and Tangmachu. Upon arrival, explore the majestic Lhuentse Dzong and visit Khoma village, renowned as Bhutan’s weaving hub, where the intricate art of Kushuthara comes to life.
Afterward, return to Mongar to visit the iconic Mongar Dzong. Conclude the day with a relaxed evening stroll through the vibrant town.

Day 11: Mongar – Korila – Tashigang
Begin your day with a drive to the Korila Pass, where you’ll pause to take in the breathtaking views before descending to the picturesque village of Yedi. Experience the thrill of Yedi’s renowned zigzag road, stopping along the way to witness the production of lemongrass oil, crafted from wild grasses found abundantly on the eastern mountains.After checking into your hotel, visit the historic Trashigang Dzong. This impressive structure, the largest dzong in eastern Bhutan, serves as the administrative hub of the Trashigang district.
Next, take a 40-minute drive to Ranjung to visit the revered monastic school founded by Garab Rinpoche. From there, enjoy a scenic hike down to the charming village of Ranjung.Conclude your day by exploring the lively Trashigang town at your leisure in the evening.

Day 12: Tashigang – Tashiyangtse – Tashigang
Begin the day with a scenic drive to Tashiyangtse, stopping en route to visit the Gomkora Temple. Nestled along the banks of the Drangme Chu River, this temple is renowned for its exquisite murals, considered among the most beautiful in Bhutan.Continue to the village of Duksum, a local hub where residents from surrounding areas gather for shopping. Here, you’ll also have the chance to observe local women engaged in traditional weaving.
After a two-hour drive, arrive in Tashiyangtse, celebrated for its masterful wooden crafts, including finely crafted bowls, cups, and plates. Visit the iconic 18th-century Chorten Kora, a stunning stupa modeled after Nepal’s Syambunath Stupa.
Explore the town and visit local artisans’ homes to witness the craftsmanship of wooden items. You’ll also tour the Institute for Zorig Chusum, the school dedicated to preserving Bhutan’s thirteen traditional arts and crafts.In the evening, return to Trashigang.

Day 13: Tashigang – Samdrup Jongkhar
En route to Samdrup Jongkhar, stop at Kanglung College and visit the nearby temple, a serene and culturally significant site. Continue to the Khaling Weaving Center, established by the National Women’s Association, where Bhutanese women are trained in the traditional art of weaving.As you drive through the stunning landscapes and charming villages, take a break at Womrong for a rest stop, where you can enjoy a refreshing cup of tea.
From Womrong, it’s approximately a four-hour drive to the Indian border. Upon arrival in Samdrup Jongkhar, check into your hotel and take some time to explore this bustling border town at your leisure.

Day 14: Samdrup Jongkhar – Guwahati Airport for Departure
The border is just a few minutes from your hotel. Upon crossing into India, you’ll journey through the lush and renowned tea gardens of Assam. Stop at the Indian immigration control station to have your visa stamped. While driving through India can be challenging, the experience is filled with its own unique charm.As you head towards Guwahati Airport, you’ll cross the mighty Brahmaputra River, the longest river in India, before arriving at the crossroads that lead to both the airport and the town.
As your journey concludes, your guide and driver will bid you a heartfelt farewell, wishing you safe travels until your next adventure with us.

We went with “Wild Nature Quest” (Bhutan Birding) to see the birds, and cultural sights, and trek in Bhutan. They are an A+ company! The owner, Mr. Norbu, worked with us to meticulously plan our 12-day trip. The company is locally owned & uses certified, local birds, cultural guides, & drivers. The driver’s skills are as important as the guide’s – given Bhutan’s sometimes challenging roads. The costs were exactly as stated. The tour was planned to give us the maximum number of days to acclimate to the altitude, before doing our trek.
